Carlyle's Watch

The corner of Third Street and Gay Street has long been an eye sore of one of Columbus' more eclectic urban neighborhoods. A two story blighted and boarded building sat vacant on this corner for over 20 years. In 2006 it was removed to create a 56 unit condominium high rise and define the Gay Street corridor. The project incorporates an innovative structural system and a cutting edge automated parking system. The façade is a blend of multicolored glass and steel that picks up on the color palate of the surrounding buildings while giving it an identity that is highly individual. Careful attention was given to how the glass would reflect during different parts of the day and how light would shine through at night. The building comes to life with the staccato of light and color and dramatically changes hour to hour- at times completely dissolving into the reflections of the city.
